Team History
In 1999 Ford took over the Stewart-Ford F1 team, and renamed the
team Jaguar Racing. Jaguar made its F1 debut in 2000 at Melbourne
with driver's Eddie Irvine and Johnny Herbert launching the Jaguar
R1. Despite the good performances put in by Irvine and Stewart the
R1 was uncompetitive and Jaguar finished the season with only 4
points.
The 2001 season saw little improvement with a season total of 9
points, however Eddie Irvine did achieve a podium position at Monte
Carlo. 2002 mirrored 2001, with Jaguar scoring a pathetic 8 points
overall and just 1 podium position from Irvine again. The end of
season heartache was compounded when both official driver's Eddie
Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa left Jaguar.
2003 saw owner Ford taking very public and direct control of the
team in 2003. A much more basic car was raced and drivers Pizzionia,
Webber
and Wilson joined the team. However the season results were still
far below par recording no poles, podiums or wins, just a meagre
consolation of 18 points.
