Team History

An excellent history in motorsport that boasts 7 World Rally Championship Titles and a well established record in American CART and Le Mans 24. The next obvious challenge for Toyota was Formula 1. After a number of years of preparation Toyota made its F1 debut in 2002. The team debuted with driver's Mike Salto and Allan McNish. Despite the huge hype and the extravagant budget Toyota did not win any points in 2002.

2003 saw the new drivers Cristiano da Matta and Olivier Panis put in some good performances but the team finished in only in 8th place. However Toyota is not the first team to struggle in their opening seasons. In the initial years after their debut Williams also struggled before becoming one of the main contenders in the championship.

With the strong financial, managerial and technical commitment Toyota is bound to start achieving and challenging for the F1 title soon enough.
