Career Highlights

Panis originally started out in Karting and then in 1988 moved into French Formula Renault, of which he became the 1989. Thereafter he progressed into French Formula 3 obtaining 4th position in 1990 and was the Runner-up in 1991. In 1992 he began competing in International Formula 3000 and became the 1993 champion.

In 1994 he made his F1 debut with the Ligier team where he demonstrated steady performances. It was in 1996 that he achieved is first, at for that matter only (to date) win in the Monaco GP and finished 9th overall in the Championship.

Prost bought Ligier in 1997, and it was a good omen for Panis too. He had a strong start to the season and enjoyed a podium position in the Barcelona GP. However after a serious crash in the Montreal GP that season success has slowed for Panis.

There were insignificant interludes at McLaren and BAR but Panis was again denied any notable successes. In 2003 Panis signed for Toyota and despite giving great efforts was again wanting of wins and podium positions.
