Nationality - Colombian
Height - 1.68m
Weight - 72kg
Current Team - Williams

Career Highlights

Juan Pablo Montoya has a substantial kart racing history and won a number of Colombian Kart Championships.

His racing career really kicked off when he started competing in the British F3 and took 3 wins in the 1996 season. Thereafter he progressed into F3000 series, and took the runner-up position in 1997 and improved the next season by winning the F3000 Championship in style. In 1999 he also won the CART FedEx Championship, and Indianapolis 500 in 2000.

Having started testing for Williams in 1998 he did not make his F1 debut until 2001 in Melbourne. In this first season he took a win in the Monza grand prix and 3 pole positions. Despite not achieving any wins in 2002 he did secure 6 impressive pole positions. In 2003 he took to 2 wins in both the Monte Carlo GP and the Hockenheim GP.

A competent 2004 season but still denied the chance of taking the championship. However having announced a switch to the McLaren team at the end of 2004 perhaps 2005 holds greater success for Montoya.
