Career Highlights

David Coulthard started out in karting and holds a successful record including winning the Scottish Open Junior Kart Championship consecutively in 1986 - 1988.

In 1989 David Coulthard moved into Formula Ford racing and became the Dunlop/ Autosport FF1 600 Champion and the P&O Ferries FF1 600 Champion.

In 1990 Coulthard joined Paul Stewart Racing and notable successes include Winner of the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix in 1991 and winning Le Mans 24 Hours (GT Class).

His debut F1 Grand Prix came in Spain 1994 in difficult circumstances after Ayrton Senna fatal crash. In his full season in 1995 he took a win in Estoril, Portugal with the Williams team.

Thereafter Coulthard moved to the McLaren team in 1996. The 1997 season saw him win both the Grand Prix at Melbourne and also Monza. Another notable season for Coulthard was in 2000 when he claimed 3 wins in Monte Carlo, Silverstone and Mangy Cours. And in 2001 secured 2nd place in the driver's championship - his best position to date. His success has continued and overall he has achieved a total of 12 wins with McLaren.
