Career Highlights
Cristiano holds a strong karting record which boasts winner
of the Minas Championship 1990,1991; Brazilian Championship 1991;
the Rio-Minas Championship 1992 and the Sao Paulo Championship 1992.
The next obvious step was Formula Ford and in 1993 and 1994 became
the Champion of Brazilian Formula Ford. 1995 saw Cristiano move
to British Formula Ford, where he claimed 1 win and came in 8th
place overall.
In 1997 he moved onto the US racing scene and came in 3rd in the
Indy Lights in 1997 and then went onto win the series in 1998. In
1999 Cristiano da Matta began competing in the FedEx CART Championship
and demonstrated comprehensive form and in 2002 took the Championship
title with an amazing series that included 11 podium positions.
In 2003 Cristiano made his F1 debut with Toyota
and completed the season in 13th place overall and has continued
with Toyota
in 2004.
