Career Highlights
Michael Schumacher's karting history boasts champion of the German
Junior Championship 1984 and European Championship 1987. From his
karting foundations he quickly moved into German Formula racing.
He became Champion of the German Formula Ford in 1988 and then won
the German Formula 3 in 1990. He was runner-up of Formula 3000 in
1991. In the same year he made his F1 debut at the Belgian Grand
Prix in Spa and marked the beginning of the most prolific racing
career. Before the end of that season Schumacher moved to Benetton.
He recorded his first ever win at the Belgium GP in 1992 - only
his second season in F1.
Schumacher continued from strength to strength and in 1994 claimed
his first ever Drivers' Title with Benetton, in a season where he
had achieved 10 podium places (8 wins) and a total of 92 points.
He became the double champion in 1995 when in a highly competitive
season he edged Damon Hill to take the Driver's title again.
In 1996 Michael Schumacher signed for Ferrari.
Immediately taking 3 wins in the 1996 season Schumacher renewed
optimism for Ferrari.
Schumacher produced 5 wins in 1997 but was deprived of the title
because of an illegal manoeuvre and finished as runner-up. Another
highly competitive season followed with Schumacher again runner-up
having produced 6 wins.
2000 was Ferrari's
record year taking a total of 170 points. In fact Michael Schumacher
achieved 128 of those points and 9 wins to take that Driver’s
Title. 2002 saw Michael Schumacher take the Driver's Title again,
this time with 17 podium positions that included 11 wins. The same
result followed in 2003 with Michael Schumacher taking the Title
again and in convincing style.
The season not even near to an end and Schumacher has clinched
the 2004 F1 World Championship Title with incredible style. Driving
again with Ferrari, the combination totally dominated the championship.
Finishing in second place at Spa (Belgium) ensured Schumacher enough
points to secure the 2004 Championship Title. All this in a season
that has rarely seen Schumacher extend himself to his full potential
certainly defined his supremacy in the sport.
Schumacher has achieved an unprecedented 7 Championship Titles
and a total of 82 wins, and is still going strong.
