EA Sports have really pushed the boat out in their latest Formula
One release. Available on PC, PlayStation2, X-Box, and soon Game Cube,
F1 2002 lets you race on all the latest 17 Grand Prix circuits in
the current F1 season.
New teams Toyota and Renault, along with all the year's rookie
drivers are all featured, along with the brand new Hockenheim circuit.
Traction and launch control all feature, (with launch control starts
being particularly fun). F1 2002 is at the top of its game offerring
the very latest possibilities for any F1, or racing game fan to
enjoy.
The attention to detail is unparallelled. Experience the delight
of driving a Ferrari, or the anguish of a bad handling Jaguar -
the performance and handling characterisics of each team are extensively
detailed as are the set-up options as you strive to make your charge
more competitive.
For those who just want to race, there is a simplified set-up sceme,
where you select the type of characteristics you would like, and
the details are filled in by your computer - or for those who understand
the intricacies of spring rates, packers, dampers, radiator sizes,
cambers (the list is endless) you can dabble with the most minute
details. In addition the game provides basic set-ups you can load,
giving you a helpful starting point in getting your car in shape.
Go crazy with in-depth telemetry options. Easy to understand, but
highly detailled telemetry of your laps will allow you to pinpoint
exactly where you are losing time to your rivals.
The physics of F1 2002 are superb. Race wheel to wheel with your
rivals, who offer the most advanced and realistic artificial intelligence
of any product currently on the market. In addition you can yourself
decide how aggressive your competition should be, as well as how
quick they should be. If you fancy a challenge, there is no excuse
in this game, as you can simply increase the rating of the AI drivers.
Collisions are realistic, not only for you, but also your rivals
(watch out for wreckless drivers crashing in front of you along
the narrow streets of Monaco). The selection of views to race from
each offer a fantastic vantage-points making you feel as though
you really are seated in the cockpit of a Formula One car.
For gamers with steering wheels, the force feedback on F1 2002
is superb - and a marked improvement on one of the more lacking
areas of its predecessor. If you race without a wheel, there are
a number of driver aids, each of which can be editted to have a
greater or lesser effect allowing you to decide just how easy, or
difficult your task should be.
F1 2002 is an essential addition to any thrill-seeker's game collection.
The latest, and best F1 simulator on the market - EA Sports have
got the formula right, taking all the best bits from F1 2002, and
fixing the few areas that lacked in the predecessor. |
